War of the Burning Sands
Ledo is the northernmost island in the chain that marks the transition of the Sea of Silt into the Estuary of the Forked Tongue. It is a rocky and almost completely barren island with only sparse pockets of vegetation. The island is dominated by its central peak, called “Muku Kraga” by the hill giants that inhabit the island – literally, “burning hill.” It is called this because of the slow stream of smoke that emanates from the active caldera atop the mountain and the enormous amounts of flint that make it up. The mountain and the surrounding rock are colored black and gray, for every stone seems to have at least some trace of the useful mineral. Surrounding Muku Kraga are dozens of low hills and valleys.
Only one sentient race calls Ledo its home—the Grakkul Clan of hill giant miners and traders. The giants are generally friendly and tolerant of those who come to Ledo, as long as they are there to trade and do not wander near their mines on the southern face of the mountain. However, they are outwardly hostile towards dwarves, who they think are trying to steal their flint. The village of the giants, also named Ledo, is located on the southwestern slope of the mountain, where it receives partial cover from the estuary’s buffeting silt storms. The giants’ village used to be on the east side of Ledo, but was abandoned. Morghan, an aging warrior, is chief of the tribe and largest and strongest among them. His half-giant son Moctal has begun to take on more responsibility and hopes to lead the clan himself one day.
