War of the Burning Sands
This infamous band of men for hire consists of about thirty soldiers commanded by Kathor Danava, a wary but honest bounty hunter who usually stays at his camp in the mountains south of Altaruk but has recently spent more time inside the town overseeing operations first-hand. Orders are handed down to him by Renard Sandman, the ruthless leader of the mercenary organization.
Most citizens look upon the Black Jhakars as a benevolent defense force lending a helping hand to the beleaguered city guard. This view has largely been fostered by Kathor’s honorable approach to handling strife, and even the city guard, normally suspicious of bounty hunters, has a generally favorable opinion of them. Because capturing suspected magic-users for Tyr has been so lucrative, Kathor has led most of his band into the town, leaving only a small force at their main lair. The Black Jhakars’ activities in recent months have netted many of the lesser spell casters in the town, who were then sold to an unknown fate at the hands of the Tyrian Templars.
All Black Jhakar members wear an armband—red, with the black silhouette of a jhakar—and some letters written in Infernal that few are able to read. This sigil makes them instantly recognizable to anyone in Altaruk and the surrounding region.
